A Campground in the Florida Keys with your own Dock? Yes please!
We went camping in Key Largo at a family-friendly campground! From glass-bottom kayaking, to barracudas underneath our own personal dock, to hanging out with iguanas… This was a camping trip we will never forget!

Key Largo Kampground is a beautiful campground in, you guessed it, Key Largo! Campsites hug the marina, providing campsites along the water with their own personal dock and tiki hut. You can literally cast a line and catch your lunch steps away from your camper! The campground has two beaches on either side of the U-shaped marina making kayaking, paddle boarding, and canoeing easily accessible. There are laundry amenities and a campground store onsite along with a pool and playground for the kids! This campground has breathtaking views and is in a great location, right near bait shops, snorkel shops, boat rentals and restaurants.
One of the most epic amenities available at this campground is the glass-bottom kayaks! Florida Bay Outfitters drops off your kayaks right on the beach at the campground and picks them up when you’re done, so you don’t even have to leave the campground! Just give them a call, let them know the days you want to kayak and they will take care of the rest! We kayaked around the marina and into the mangrove maze around the campground. We saw coral, fish, birds, and so much more wildlife all around us. It was amazing!
There are amazing excursions near by! We went snorkeling in the reefs of Key Largo in John Pennekamp State Park and it was one of the most amazing experiences we have done so far! Sundiver Snorkeling Tours brought us to the reef and let us explore for an hour. I have never been snorkeling before and neither have the kids. I was very nervous. Probably too nervous. I was also worried Logan would be afraid. To my surprise, Logan was the first to jump in! He even waved hello to the giant barracuda lurking in the shadows of the sea grass! I give a lot of credit to Sundiver and their staff for making us feel so comfortable and informed about how to stay safe out there! This was also the beginning of many science conversations we had about the reefs and the creatures that call it home. Homeschooling bonus, am I right?
We spent most of our time on our personal dock at our campsite. Steps out of our camper was a beautiful dock with stellar views of the fish beneath us all day and the lights along the marina at night. We went fishing, played giant dominos, did homeschool work, drank coffee watching the sunrise, watched fish and coral, and had great talks together as a family on the dock. We even had a barracuda and iguana as our neighbors! The views were so peaceful and we truly felt like we were on a tropical vacation.
If you decide to take a camping trip to Key Largo, we highly suggest camping here!
Tips before camping in Key Largo:
- There are bugs sometimes! Pack yourself enough bug spray and we recommend bringing an industrial fan. Whenever we plug in our fan outside it helps with the bug problem much more than the spray!
- Plan enough time for both excursions and chill time! There are so many excursions in Key Largo and we couldn’t get to all of them. Theres usually only enough time for one per day and you will also enjoy just chilling at your campsite for a day! We suggest adding two extra chill days along with her excursion days.
- Bring underwater cameras! We use a GoPro and our digital camera with underwater housing. If you don’t own an underwater camera, there are many to choose from online as well as at the snorkel shop when you arrive. You can’t miss out on the photo opportunities under the sea! You will want to take these memories home with you!
